Company Mission

For us, the challenge was never so much to compete with other companies but to compete with ourselves. Everything we’ve done in the last 12 years was to improve our production processes, quality level as well as range of products and in general, our level of service. From that perspective, finding customers was actually secondary to bettering ourselves. The goal was always to create a company that would be viable in the long run even after the original owners would pull out.

History

1997Our early history was not so glamorous. The owners, Avi Kaplan and Thierry Chausse met in Korea. Avi was working there as a buying agent and Thierry was going there often to buy goods to sell in Indonesia and Thailand. In early 1997, Avi told Thierry about this new product he found in the market in Seoul: Body piercing jewelry!

Why Work With Us

When you order from Salamander jewelry, as opposed to some of our colleagues in the industry, you know you’ll get the following:

Standard products with specifications that do not change every month because we suddenly changed supplier. We try to manufacture most items and when we do not, we have long standing relationships with our suppliers, which means the products are always the same from one order to the next.

Workers Welfare

Workers welfare as well as environmental concerns are rich countries issues. Like most companies in Asia, we did not realize the importance of those issues when we started doing business in 1998. But as we grew successfully, we became aware that these were important aspects of doing business. In the early days, our worker turnover was huge. Newly trained workers were fast leaving and we had to start over again and again with new workers.

ISO 9001

In 2007, after we finished the move to the new factory, the management of the company met and we decided it was time to put in place some quality standards that everybody in the company could follow. We wanted worker A to see a piece of jewelry in the same manner as worker B would and we wanted the standards to remain the same in the long run.

Environment Concerns

When it comes to the environment, we put our money where our mouth is. When we built the factory in 2007, we went ahead and installed what we thought were good systems to treat water, smoke and dust coming out of the factory. After we opened officially, officers from the Thai industrial department came to inspect the factory as well as our environmental systems. At the end of the visit, they asked us if they could take some pictures!!! It turned out they had never seen such systems in place in Nakhon Pathom province…
