As it turns out, you have a gala or a party of some sort to attend. This is not someplace you would dare be caught not looking your absolute best. You would have that irresistible piece of couture on, that beautiful hair-do that you leave for the best occasions, and a series of jewelry to accessorize your look.
You are going to make sure you look worthy of a position on the cover of Vogue magazine, but there is one little problem. Every time you have on jewelry, you end up with irritated skin or even break out into rashes. That red marks around your neck look like you were engaged in some kinky session that was a bit rough, but no. It’s just your skin reacting to your jewelry.
You will need some kind of jewelry for this event, but do you know which type you should get?
The problem.
What is happening here is that you are having an allergic reaction to the jewelry that you are wearing. Even if it is not immediate, you probably have made it into a science of tolerance. You know exactly how long you can have it on before things start getting itchy.
The allergic reactions you get are because of the type of metals in your jewelry. If you recall from your high school chemistry, metals are placed onto the reactivity series. This indicates how strong a reaction those metals may have with substances.
Various metals can be used for fashion jewelry. The most common of these are brass, an alloy of copper and zinc. The other is nickel. These are the two (three?) metals that are notorious for causing allergic reactions.
They may also come coated with gold or other coatings. However, this coating does wear off with time. Even though they may not cause you any problems when new, they will cause problems with time.
The solution.
You need something to accessorize on your big night out. Other metals can be a suitable replacement for people with sensitive skin. The question is, is stainless steel jewelry good for sensitive skin?
Most definitely.
Stainless Steel, like brass, is an alloy. However, the materials that go into making stainless steel are some of the mildest your skin will ever feel. These include iron, carbon, and chromium. In some cases, some titanium may be added to increase strength. Some formulations can consist of nickel. However, the concentrations are too small to cause any problems for the wearer.
Stainless steel is so good that it is often out before sterling silver, of all materials. While silver may seem to be the more desired material here, the 7.5 percent of copper present in sterling silver could cause you to have some sort of reaction.
Stainless steel does exist in many different grades. Whenever you are out shopping for jewelry, it would be best to keep in mind that the grade you want is labeled 316L. In this formulation, it is absolutely free of nickel, lead, and cadmium. At Salamander Jewelry, we use only the highest grade of Stainless Steel (316L) with all of our Jewelry. Salamander Jewelry is your best and safest choice if you are serious about your Wholesale Stainless Steel Jewelry quality.
